City Announces Completion of Final Hurricane Ida Debris Removal Pass

NEW ORLEANS — Today, the City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation announced the completion of the third and final debris removal pass by the City's emergency debris contractor, Ceres Environmental.

The City of New Orleans activated its emergency debris removal contracts to assist with storm-related cleanup beginning Tuesday, Sep. 7. Debris contractors made three passes to remove debris.

• First Debris Removal Pass – Ceres Environmental began the initial debris removal pass on Thursday, Sep. 7 and completed one trip down every City-owned street on Nov. 10. Over 240,000 cubic yards of debris and over 16,000 hazardous trees/limbs were removed as part of the first pass. If storm debris was placed at the curb after crews collected on a block, that storm debris will be retrieved as part of the second pass.
• Second Debris Removal Pass – Ceres Environmental removed debris from all City-owned streets from Nov. 11 - Dec 9.  An additional 37,000 cubic yard of debris was removed as part of the second pass.
• Third and Final Debris Removal Pass – On Tuesday, Dec. 21, the City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation announced the completion of the third and final debris removal pass by the City's emergency debris contractor, Ceres Environmental.

Since Hurricane Ida, Ceres Environmental has removed 281,412 cubic yards of debris and 16,730 hazardous trees and limbs.  Ceres Environmental also cleared over 200 missed storm debris collection requests during the period of Dec. 10 - Dec. 20. The removal and disposal of hazardous tree stumps will continue into January 2022.
