Go 4th on the River

A fireworks display produced by "Go 4th on the River" will take place in New Orleans along the Mississippi Riverfront at 9 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2022.

4th Fest in Crescent Park in the French Market District begins at 5:30 p.m., with free live music leading up to the 9:00 p.m. Fireworks Over The Mississippi River Show. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own chairs to enjoy the show. (Coolers, glass, and tents are not allowed.) Visit www.FrenchMarket.org for schedule details.

In anticipation of crowds, the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will set up an incident command post at the 24/7 Real-Time Crime Center, where local, state and federal public safety agencies will be represented and will coordinate emergency response if necessary.

Increased public safety personnel from the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), New Orleans Fire Department, and Emergency Medical Services will be present in the French Quarter.

In anticipation of large crowds, the New Orleans Police Department and the Louisiana State Police will restrict traffic to ensure the safety of pedestrians. Additional intermittent street closures might be required as crowd size warrants.

Traffic Restrictions

Vehicles should be made aware that they will not be able to cross Bourbon St.

All streets starting with Dumaine St. toward Esplanade Ave. will be open to cross Bourbon St.

French Quarter Closures

Vehicles Limited

From 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. overnight Monday, public safety officials will screen vehicles entering the French Quarter within the perimeter of Canal, Decatur, Dumaine, and Rampart Streets. Only residents, employees, hotel guests, and taxis or ride hailing services will be allowed to drive vehicles into the French Quarter.

No Vehicles Allowed

From 6:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. overnight Monday, public safety officials will close Bourbon Street from Canal to Dumaine Streets and the 700 and 800 blocks of St. Ann, Orleans, St. Peter, Toulouse, St. Louis, Conti, Bienville, and Iberville Streets to all traffic.

Parking Restrictions

No Parking Zones

From 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. overnight Monday, July 4th, no parking will be allowed on the following streets:

  • 700-800 blocks of St. Ann, Orleans, St. Peter, Toulouse, St. Louis, Conti, Bienville, and Iberville Streets
  • Canal Street, both sides, from Claiborne Avenue to Convention Center Boulevard
  • Poydras between LaSalle and Claiborne
  • Perdido between Loyola and Claiborne
  • Tulane between Loyola and Claiborne
  • LaSalle between Poydras and Tulane
  • Clara between Poydras and Perdido
  • Claiborne between Perdido and Tulane
  • Claiborne between Poydras and Cypress
  • Old Poydras between Bolivar and Galvez

From 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. overnight Monday, July 4th, no parking will be allowed on the following streets:

·       Decatur St (both sides) between Dumaine and St. Louis

·       N. Peters St. (both sides) between St. Louis St. and Canal St

·       Canal St. (both sides) from Claiborne Ave to Convention Center Blvd

Park Hours

Jackson Square will close early at 5 p.m. Crescent Park will extend its hours to 10 p.m. to accommodate fireworks viewers.

Safety Reminders

As always during major special events, residents and visitors are encouraged to take care in large crowds and to report suspicious activity to public safety officials.

Additionally, the New Orleans Fire Department reminds residents that the discharging of consumer fireworks in Orleans Parish is illegal. The safest way to enjoy fireworks is to attend a public display conducted by trained professionals.
