2026 Hazard Mitigation Plan Update in Progress
We’re planning for a resilient future.
Over the past year, the City of New Orleans updated its Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Hazard Mitigation Plan details the risks faced by our City, both man-made and naturally occurring, and outlines strategies that can help lessen the impact of future disasters on our community.
The 2026 update was developed through a multi-jurisdictional planning process involving several partner agencies and institutions, including the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority, the Housing Authority of New Orleans, Tulane University, Loyola University, local nonprofit organizations, community groups, and individual residents. This collaborative process provided an opportunity for the City and its partners to align around shared resilience goals, strengthen coordination on mitigation projects, expand access to funding opportunities, and increase community education and outreach related to disaster risk reduction.
A final draft of the 2026 Hazard Mitigation Plan update is now available for a 30-day public review period. The review period began on March 13 and will conclude on April 13. Links to both the 2026 draft plan and the previous 2020 plan are available below. We welcome and appreciate your feedback on this plan update.
