Louisiana receives an RPA Deadline Extension for Hurricane Ida

The State of Louisiana received a federal major Disaster Declaration authorizing FEMA Public Assistance Funding. The FEMA declaration issued on August 29, 2021 is DR-4611. The incident period for this event is August 26, 2021 thru September 3rd. On February 9, 2022, FEMA extended the deadline to submit Requests for Public Assistance by 30 days until March 11, 2022

City Activates Freeze Plan

In anticipation of cold weather, the City of New Orleans will activate the Citywide Freeze Plan overnight Sunday, January 2, 2022 and Monday, January 3, 2022.  A cold front moved into the New Orleans region this morning, bringing cooler air. Temperatures will drop overnight and, factoring in wind chill, will remain below the threshold of 35 degrees Fahrenheit long enough to trigger the activation of the freeze plan.

City Launches Hurricane Ida Insurance Deductible Program to Assist Homeowners

The City of New Orleans today announced the launch of a new program to assist Orleans Parish residents impacted by Hurricane Ida. Beginning tomorrow, Sept. 30, 2021, the Mayor’s Office of Housing Policy and Community Development will accept applications for the Hurricane Ida Insurance Deductible Program. The City expects to spend up to $2 million in Neighborhood Housing Improvement Funds (NHIF) that will provide financial assistance to households earning up to 140 percent of the Area Median Income (AMI), estimated at about $98,140 for a family of four to initiative storm damage repairs.

City Awarding Four Emergency Contracts to Solve Solid Waste Collection Crisis

The City of New Orleans announced that it will award four contracts aimed at solving the solid waste collection crisis that is continuing to plague our neighborhoods. Emergency contracts will be awarded to Ceres Environmental Services, LLC; River Birch, LLC; Waste ManagementInc. and Witt O’Brien’s, LLC. The City is pursuing FEMA funding to subsidize the cost; the current estimates for all new emergency trash collection is in the range of $20M.
