NEW ORLEANS—Last night, the Sewerage & Water Board lost service to one of its power turbines, which provides power to a majority of the City’s pumping stations serving the East Bank of New Orleans. As a result, the system’s capacity to drain storm water from the streets is diminished further for the East Bank of New Orleans, west of the Industrial Canal. This does not affect New Orleans East, Lower Ninth Ward and Algiers.

Today, the City of New Orleans released information following Saturday's no-notice severe weather and flooding.

The Mayor's Office of Economic Development is currently conducting preliminary damage assessments of businesses affected by Saturday's flooding. If your business was damaged, contact Economic Development at (504) 658-4200. 

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning until 9:15 pm. tonight, August 8, 2017. The City has begun to activate the Emergency Operation Center.

According to the National Weather Service, New Orleans is under an area flash flood warning until 9:15 p.m. today, August 8, 2017.

Today, the City of New Orleans released the information following Saturday's no-notice severe weather and flooding. As much as 8 to 10 inches of rain fell in isolated areas of the city within three to four hours.  Many neighborhoods of the city saw rainfall amounts equaling a 1 percent chance of occurring in any year, a so-called 100-year event.  Others saw rainfall amounts equaling a 10 percent chance of occurring in any year, a so-called 10-year event.

Morris Jeff Community School officials have announced the school will be closed Monday, August 7 due to water that remains inside the basement levels of the school. School will begin Tuesday, August 8 at 8:00 am, unless otherwise instructed. No other school closures have been reported at this time.
