Nov 17-18 Freeze Activation

City Activates Freeze Plan

In anticipation of cold weather, the City of New Orleans will activate the Citywide Freeze Plan overnight tonight, Thursday, Nov. 17, 2022 – Friday, Nov. 18, 2022.

The National Weather Service predicts "feels like" temperatures at or slightly before freezing overnight. Factoring in wind chill, temperatures will remain below the threshold of 35 degrees Fahrenheit long enough to trigger the activation of the Citywide Freeze Plan tonight.

City of New Orleans Responds to March 22 Tornado

Mayor LaToya Cantrell tonight issued the following statement on tonight's severe weather:

"A tornado touched down this evening in the Lower Ninth Ward and New Orleans East communities shortly before 8 p.m. CST. The New Orleans Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Preparedness has activated the Emergency Operations Center in response to the tornado. As of now there have been no reports of casualties or significant damage to Orleans Parish," said Mayor LaToya Cantrell.

Louisiana receives an RPA Deadline Extension for Hurricane Ida

The State of Louisiana received a federal major Disaster Declaration authorizing FEMA Public Assistance Funding. The FEMA declaration issued on August 29, 2021 is DR-4611. The incident period for this event is August 26, 2021 thru September 3rd. On February 9, 2022, FEMA extended the deadline to submit Requests for Public Assistance by 30 days until March 11, 2022

In anticipation of cold weather, the City of New Orleans will activate the Citywide Freeze Plan overnight Sunday, January 2, 2022 and Monday, January 3, 2022.  A cold front moved into the New Orleans region this morning, bringing cooler air. Temperatures will drop overnight and, factoring in wind chill, will remain below the threshold of 35 degrees Fahrenheit long enough to trigger the activation of the freeze plan.
