Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Lifted for Uptown Neighborhoods

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO), in consultation with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), has canceled the precautionary boil water advisory for residents and businesses in the Uptown areas near the universities after bacteriological tests confirmed that water in the area was safe to drink and could be used for personal needs.

Precautionary Boil Water Advisory for Limited Area Uptown

Water Testing Underway

The localized precautionary boil water advisory for residents near Tulane University is still in effect. The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans (SWBNO), in consultation with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), has begun testing water quality samples, which may take up to 24 hours to achieve results. SWBNO will notify residents and businesses when the boil water advisory is canceled. Customers in other areas of the city are not affected and do not need to boil their water.

Broken valve requires small expansion of precautionary boil water advisory near universities; SWBNO responding to water main break on South Johnson Street

While responding to a water main break near South Johnson and Calhoun streets, the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans found a broken valve on Audubon Street. That required us to close more valves to isolate the water supply to the break. Out of an abundance of caution, we are expanding the existing precautionary boil water advisory to include all properties between South Claiborne Avenue, Hickory Street, South Carrollton Avenue and both sides of Audubon Boulevard.

Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Issued for Isolated Area Uptown

The Sewerage & Water Board issued a precautionary boil water advisory for two isolated areas Uptown:

  • Properties along Calhoun and Palmer Avenue between South Claiborne Avenue and Story Street, including the dead-end blocks of South Johnson, South Prieur and Barret Street.
  • Properties between South Claiborne, Audubon, Hickory and Lowerline streets.
