Mayor Cantrell Terminates Emergency Proclamation for Hurricane Sally

Mayor LaToya Cantrell today officially terminated the declaration of the state of emergency for the City of New Orleans regarding Hurricane Sally.

RTA resumes service

The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority will resume limited bus and streetcar operations. Contingent upon favorable weather, limited bus and streetcar service will be running by 2:00 pm with full service restored by 4:00 pm. All bus and streetcar service will follow the Saturday schedule. 

RTA ferry service will resume operations once the U.S. Coast Guard determines it is safe to reopen the Mississippi River to traffic and as weather conditions permit. The Algiers Point – Canal St. bus shuttle will operate to provide terminal-to-terminal service.

Today, the City of New Orleans provided updates on services set to resume as significant impacts from Hurricane Sally are no longer anticipated in the local area. Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware now and through the remainder of hurricane season.

NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is announcing that all distance learning classes will resume on Wednesday, Sept. 16th and the reopening of the NOLA-PS central office and school buildings.

Warnings Downgraded in Orleans as Sally Tracks East

Hurricane Sally continues to track east Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service has downgraded the Hurricane Warning in Orleans Parish to a Tropical Storm Warning and has cancelled the Flash Flood Watch. A Storm Surge Warning remains in effect, with six to nine feet of coastal flooding possible in areas outside the levee system and two to four feet on Lake Pontchartrain. Residents should continue to stay weather aware.

City Hall Closed Tuesday

New Orleans City Hall will be closed tomorrow, as we continue to monitor impacts from Hurricane Sally. Normal hours are expected to resume Wednesday.

A Hurricane Warning, Flash Flood Watch, and Storm Surge Warning remain in effect for Orleans Parish.

The City of New Orleans asks residents to remain weather aware as Hurricane Sally, a Category 2 hurricane, could bring impacts to the New Orleans area Tuesday through Wednesday. Due to a continued shift in the forecast cone to the east, rainfall totals have significantly decreased; however, there is still some uncertainty in the track.

Flood Protection Authority Continued Preparations for Tropical Storm Sally

In preparation of Tropical Storm Sally, the Flood Protection Authority East (FPA-East) is set to close several gates within the flood protection system. Beginning at 6:00AM Sunday, we began closing several flood gates within the region and currently, a total of 84 gates are set to be closed by Monday evening.
