Hurricane Francine has Passed

All NOLA Public Schools to Remain Closed Friday in Response to Hurricane Francine

NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) conducted building inspections of its school facilities in the wake of Hurricane Francine in order to determine a reopening plan following the storm.

Due to operational challenges, the district has determined it is in the best interest of the community to remain closed on Friday. In addition to power outages, building impacts, and staffing issues with bus companies, the city has asked residents to conserve water to prevent sewer backups. We encourage families to check with their individual schools for their reopening plans.

The health and safety of our students, staff, and families are our top priority. We recognize that many families are dealing with power outages or home damage and encourage everyone to focus on their safety and recovery.

NOLA-PS’ Mahalia Jackson campus is experiencing chiller issues and will be closed on Friday. However, the Central Office in Algiers will reopen and operate as usual.

Superintendent Dr. Avis Williams expresses her heartfelt gratitude to all schools, teachers, staff, families, and students for their resilience and cooperation during this challenging time.
