Marco Weakens, City Monitors Tropical Storm Laura

As Tropical Storm Marco weakens, the City of New Orleans remains vigilant in preparations for Tropical Storm Laura, which could bring coastal flooding, rain, and winds to the area Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Residents are encouraged to continue to finish preparations ahead of the storm.

All watches and warnings associated with Marco have been cancelled for Orleans Parish; however, new warnings in advance of Laura may be issued shortly. The voluntary evacuation order remains in effect in areas outside levee protection, including Venetian Isles, Lake Catherine, and Irish Bayou.

Across the city, parking restrictions on neutral grounds and sidewalks remain suspended for residents to move vehicles to higher ground. Lifted restrictions are for personal passenger vehicles only. The City asks that you not block intersections, streetcar lines, or bike paths.

Regularly-scheduled trash and recycling collection will resume tomorrow for customers with Tuesday pickup. Residents are asked to remove and secure carts immediately after pickup in anticipation of rain and wind likely with Laura as early as overnight Tuesday.

City Hall will be open on Tuesday, Aug. 25 for regular service operations online and in person, under the COVID-19 guidelines.

The New Orleans Regional Transit Authority will restore limited bus service along main corridors in the city beginning at 2:30 pm on Monday, Aug. 24. Regular bus service will be restored on Tuesday, Aug. 25 following the Saturday schedule and will continue until weather conditions deteriorate. Streetcar and ferry service will remain suspended until further notice. For the latest service information, visit RTA’s website at www.RTAforward.org, follow @NewOrleansRTA on Twitter and Facebook, or call the Rideline at 504-248-3900.
