Residents Encouraged to be Weather Aware, Flash Flood Watch in Effect

The City of New Orleans continues to monitor Tropical Storm Beta, which could bring heavy rain to the New Orleans area. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect through Wednesday evening, along with a Wind Advisory and Coastal Flood Warning. Residents are encouraged to stay weather aware and to be ready to stay indoors and off the roads in the event of heavy rain. 

Neutral ground parking is allowed until further notice; however, residents are asked not to block intersections, streetcar tracks, or bike paths. 

Prolonged onshore winds are causing coastal flooding outside the levee system. A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect for those areas, with water levels of one to three feet above normal possible now through the middle of the week. Residents in Venetian Isles, Lake Catherine, and Irish Bayou should stay weather aware and be ready for coastal flooding.

Prepare for rain and wind

• Remove debris from gutters and downspouts.
• Clear debris from catch basins. Report clogged catch basins to 311. 
• Prune trees and shrubs.
• Bring outdoor furniture and decorations inside.
• Do not place garbage/recycling carts curbside any earlier than 4:00 p.m. on the day before a scheduled collection.
• Garbage/recycling carts should be promptly removed from the curb and secured on private property once collections are completed
• Move vehicles to higher ground
