The City of New Orleans’ Office of Economic Development and the U.S. Small Business Administration hosted a Hurricane Ida SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans Webinar on Friday, September 10 at 11AM.

On Saturday, Sept, 11, 2021, the City of New Orleans Department of Sanitation will host a recycling drop-off event at the City’s Recycling Drop-Off Center, located at 2829 Elysian Fields Ave., from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Today, the City of New Orleans updated residents on Hurricane Ida response and recovery efforts. City resources are beginning to wind down as Entergy restores more power to homes and businesses. Cooling centers will close at 6 p.m. today and NORD recreation centers will return to normal operations. FEMA representatives will be available to assist residents with disaster claims Monday through Friday (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) and Saturday (9 a.m. to 2 p.m.) next week at Milne, Rosenwald, Cut Off, and Joe Brown recreation centers next week.

As conditions in New Orleans continue to improve from Hurricane Ida, NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is committed to keeping its school community updated on its progress towards reopening buildings and returning students to class as safely as possible, amidst the ongoing pandemic.

District "B" Councilmember Jay H. Banks is partnering with Louisiana State Senator Karen Carter Peterson (District 5), Louisiana State Representative Royce Duplessis (District 93), Pastor Emanuel Smith of Israelite Baptist Church, Improved Benevolent Protective Order Elks of the World Greater New Orleans CYW Temple #185, and Church of Living God Resurrection (Waveland, MS) to distribute cleaning supplies, water, diapers, and tarps by request on Friday, September 10 at 1 PM at Israelite Baptist Church.

Today, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority announced the restoration of streetcar service along the Canal Streetcar line. Beginning Friday, September 10 at 5:45 a.m., streetcar service will run along the 47-Canal/Cemeteries and 48-Canal/City Park until midnight daily. In addition, the agency will also extend operating hours on all bus and streetcar routes to midnight. The service hours extension includes the 12-St. Charles which continues to operate bus service along the line.

Today, the City of New Orleans updated residents on Hurricane Ida response and recovery efforts. As Entergy restores more power across the city, community resources, such as our cooling sites, are reducing this weekend. With only approximately 4,000 customers without power, Entergy expects to have those restored by late evening tomorrow, Sept. 10 if they are able to receive it.

• FEMA has approved more than 234,000 applications for disaster assistance and more than $259 million to help Louisiana residents recover. That’s an increase of $65 million since yesterday.
• FEMA may be able to help Hurricane Ida survivors cover some disaster expenses if their insurance doesn’t. If you were affected by Ida and have insurance, first contact your insurance company.

After 10 days of restoration work following Hurricane Ida’s path of destruction, Entergy New Orleans and Entergy Louisiana employees have restored power to 90% of customers in the greater New Orleans and Greater Baton Rouge areas. These areas include Ascension, Iberville, East and West Bank of Jefferson and Orleans parishes.

In the aftermath of Hurricane Ida, the Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority-East (FPA) has noted that individuals are dumping debris and other trash on the levees of the Hurricane and Storm Damage Risk Reduction System.
