As residents learn of power restoration in their neighborhoods, and businesses start to reopen, City agencies and public safety officials continue to assess damages sustained during the storm and partner with organizations to offer residential resources.

Councilmember Palmer and T-Mobile to Provide 500 Cellular Phones at Emergency Food Distribution Site Today

District "C" Councilmember Kristin Gisleson Palmer is partnering with T-Mobile and Carlos Hornbrook of Hornbrook Law Firm to provide 500 cellular phones with 30-day free service during an emergency food distribution today, September 8, from 1 PM to 4 PM in Algiers.

Curfew lifted in New Orleans

The NOPD today (September 8, 2021) has lifted the citywide curfew put in place following Hurricane Ida’s impact on the City of New Orleans. This comes as the city sees continued progress in its recovery from this weather event.

However, as the curfew is lifted, NOPD will continue to provide increased and focused patrols throughout the city, including in areas that have yet to have power restored.

LCMC offering drive thru vaccines and assistance

LCMC Health is hosting a free community drive-thru event on Wednesday, September 8th from 3-5pm at New Orleans East Hospital (Parking Lot across from the main entrance). We will be handing out prepared meals, snoballs and bottled water. Free Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines will be available at this location only.

NOLA Health Department Offers Free Carbon Monoxide Detectors at Cooling Stations

Due to the increase in generator incidents in Orleans Parish, the New Orleans Health Department is giving away free carbon monoxide detectors at all eight cooling stations and the Central City Senior Center.  This limited supply will be available daily from 8 am to 6 pm.

Reuniting with Pets after Hurricane Ida

In the days following Hurricane Ida, the Louisiana SPCA has picked up a number of stray animals. Anytime an animal comes into our shelter as a stray we hold that animal for the legally required stray holding period.  In Orleans Parish it is 3 days (exactly 72 hours) and in Plaquemines Parish it is 5 days (120 hours) in order to give that animal a chance to be reunited with their family. We understand that many people evacuated for Hurricane Ida and if they left their pet behind with a neighbor checking on their pet they may not know that they got out.
