Homeowners, residents, and businesses in Orleans Parish who experienced uninsured losses due to Hurricane Zeta may be eligible for federal disaster assistance and disaster food stamps.

Oxygen Exchange Sites

The City will be opening Oxygen Exchange sites across the city, where residents who are on oxygen can swap out an empty tank for a full tank, free of charge. The following locations will open at 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

  • New Orleans Fire Station 27, 2118 Elysian Fields Ave
  • New Orleans Fire Station 36, 5401 Read Blvd
  • New Orleans Fire Station 40, 2500 General DeGaulle Drive

NOLA Public Schools to Be Closed Friday, Oct. 30 in Wake of Hurricane Zeta

NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) announced the cancellation of all distance learning and in-person classes for Friday, Oct. 30, due to ongoing power outages across New Orleans and to give our students, families, teachers and staff time to assess the aftermath of Hurricane Zeta.

This decision includes the closure of NOLA-PS central offices and the cancellation of food services for families on Friday as well.

FEMA Provides Update on Hurricane Zeta Impacts

Key Messages

  • Hurricane Zeta affected areas already impacted by other hurricanes, further increasing the threat of dangerous flooding. Flooding from a previous storm could be worsened with additional rainfall from this storm system.
  • Be aware of risks such as rain, inland and flash flooding and wind as the storm continues east.
  • For storm information specific to your area, including possible inland watches and warnings, please monitor forecasts from your local National Weather Service office.

Public Safety and Infrastructure Agencies Assessing Zeta's Hazards

After Hurricane Zeta moved through the city, emergency officials are conducting initial damage assessments along major corridors. Widespread downed trees, power lines, and debris are in the roadways. Residents are asked to continue to stay indoors until morning and to leave the hazards to public safety officials. More information on debris removal and what to do if your property was damaged will be available Thursday.

NOLA-PS Cancels School Thursday Due to Hurricane Zeta

In anticipation of Hurricane Zeta’s impact, NOLA Public Schools (NOLA-PS) is canceling all distance learning and in-person classes tomorrow, Thursday, October 29. This includes the closure of NOLA-PS central offices. The safety of our students, their families, teachers, and staff is our top priority as we continue to monitor the potential impact of the storm to our school facilities and communities.

The return to distance learning and in-person learning will be determined once the District can assess the aftermath of the storm.

NOLA-PS Issues Update for Schools in Response to Change in Hurricane Zeta Forecast

With Hurricane Zeta moving inland earlier in the day than expected, New Orleans Public Schools are instructed to end distance learning by noon today to allow our school community to prepare for storm impacts. The safety of our students, their families, teachers, and staff is our top priority.

NOLA-PS central office will not be staffed after noon today, October 28th.

Due to the storm, food service will not be offered to families for pick-up Wednesday, October 28. Announcements will be made when they resume.

RTA transit service update in advance of Hurricane Zeta

Due to the rapidly changing forecast of Hurricane Zeta, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority will shift the suspension of all transit services to 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 28. 

All transit operations will remain suspended until further notice and it is deemed safe for service to resume.

Zeta Now Expected to Make Landfall as a Category 2 Wednesday Afternoon

Overnight, Zeta has strengthened and is now expected to make landfall in Southeast Louisiana as a Category 2 Hurricane. That means stronger, damaging winds and a higher likelihood of downed power lines, trees, and extended power outages. Residents should finish preparations this morning and be sheltered in place by 2 p.m. today.
