West Nile Virus

Detection of West Nile Virus in Local Mosquitoes

The New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board (NOMTCB) is reporting the detection of West Nile virus (WNV) in additional mosquito collections in Orleans Parish. At this time, no locally-transmitted human cases of WNV or Zika virus have been reported in New Orleans. Residents should continue to remain vigilant by reducing standing water and taking precautions to prevent mosquito bites.

Boil Water Advisory for NOLA East Bank

Precautionary Boil Water Advisory Lifted

The Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, in conjunction with the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), has lifted the precautionary boil water advisory for the East bank of Orleans Parish. Bacteriological tests confirmed that water in the area is safe to drink and can be used for personal needs.

September 14th Air Quality Alert

Air Quality Alert Issued for New Orleans Area, Thursday, Sep. 14

An Air Quality Alert has been issued for New Orleans until midnight tonight, Thursday, September 14th. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) has raised the Air Quality Index to orange, indicating that the air quality in the afternoon is unhealthy for sensitive groups including active children and adults, the elderly and people with respiratory diseases, such as asthma. These groups should avoid prolonged outdoor activities and exertion.

Hurricane Irma

Hurricane Irma Now Inland, Minimal Local Impacts

Hurricane Irma made landfall Sunday in Florida and is now moving north-northwest through central Florida. A coastal flood advisory, including the south shore of Lake Pontchartrain, is in effect as tides are expected to be one to two feet above normal. Otherwise, no local impacts from Irma are expected. Residents are reminded that we are in the peak of hurricane season. Now is the time to revisit family emergency plans and to gather supplies.

Low-interest SBA disaster loans available for renters, homeowners, businesses and nonprofits

Today, the City of New Orleans reminded residents and businesses impacted by the August 5 flood in New Orleans about recovery resources available, such as low-interest federal disaster loans from the U.S. Small Business Administration and other types of assistance from non-profit organizations.

Tropical Storm Harvey

Mayor Landrieu, Officials Provide Update on Hurricane Harvey

According to the National Weather Service, Tropical Storm Harvey is moving north and is expected to move north-northeastward later today. While the threat of severe weather in New Orleans has reduced, a Flash Flood Watch is in still effect in the area through Thursday. Mayor Landrieu advises residents to remain vigilant and prepare for the potential of moderate and short rain events.
